Repeat after me: It is fall. It is usually cold in the fall.
Kids don’t like being cold. Frankly, I don’t blame them because I don’t like to be cold either. Moms, let’s set our kids up for success at your photo shoot. There are lots of pieces to this (like telling them well ahead of time, not just after everyone jumps in the car on the way to see me). One BIG piece that comes into play now is dressing for the weather. It may be in the 50’s or 60’s, and we’ll be outside from 20-60 minutes, depending on your session time. Please do NOT dress your child in a plain long sleeve t-shirt and assume he/she won’t be cold. If it is windy or we are in the shade, they will get cold. Just like getting ready for school, you need to dress everyone (yourself included) for the weather. This is where accessories and fun outwear come in to play! Try adding a jacket, vest, scarf, cardigan, tights, tall boots, etc for a little extra warmth. Your kids (and I) will thank you! An added bonus is that layering adds more texture and interest to the group, which is great! I’ve shown some great ideas below.
