Smith family | Franklin, TN family photographer

I did something yesterday that I very rarely do– photograph teenagers!  It’s so funny to go from sessions with toddlers or young kids who may or may not follow directions to teens who can and WILL do exactly what you ask the first time.  That said, I still love the little ones. 🙂  We had a gorgeous day with a perfect sunset.  I sure am thankful that today’s cold front didn’t move through sooner.  Whew, we would have frozen!

Teens are also fun because they are developing their own style.  They each had their own distinct look.  Love that.

As usual, I’m not posting any whole-family photos in case they want to use one for Christmas cards. 🙂  The following “twin pic” was a special request from their mom.

I first met Julie and her two children, Annie and Jack, two years ago for a session.  We had a good time that day at Percy Warner Park.  When Julie called me earlier this year about getting an ECP gift certificate to give to her boyfriend for Father’s Day, I thought it was a great idea!  She thought he’d enjoy having photos done with his son, Luke.  More recently, she and I talked about turning it into a group session to represent the two families both individually and together.  So fun!

Most of you know that I’m a former 4th grade teacher. I’m totally comfortable with elementary age kids and all the silliness that goes with it.  Having 2 second graders and 1 third grader made for lots of giggles, energy, and a tad bit of drama.  Emphasis on the energy and drama. 😉  It was a good time.  I don’t get to hang out with kids that age very often, and I definitely enjoyed it!

Just a reminder– I don’t post any whole group photos in previews this time of year because of Christmas cards and such. 🙂

I met this family of four in downtown Franklin the other day in one of my favorite spots.  It was an overcast day, and the leaves were really starting to turn.  I just love this time of year, even though the weather is a bit predictable (30 degrees a week ago, 70 degrees today).  That can make my job a tad more difficult, but I really have lucked out so far with happy clients and the weather being just right on session days. 🙂

Just a reminder, I’ve started keeping full family photos secret just in case they might get used for Christmas cards!

They are friends with the Garretts (whose preview you saw a couple weeks ago), and daughter Averly specifically requested that she and her brother get to do this pose after seeing her friends do it. 🙂

There is much that I could write about this family.  Tristan and my Matthew share a birthday (today!) a year apart.  This family has had a terrible few months, as you will remember from here.  They had every reason to not want family photos done this year.  I convinced Laura that we could find a way to include Margaret and suggested that the kids bring their loveys that are “from” Margaret.  You’ll see those below.  They are a beautiful family.  They are a strong family.  They are a loving family.  If they can make it through this, they can make it through anything. Sending all of my love to them.

William’s mama knows that she is blessed.  Do you know what she texted me today? “I certainly don’t take it for granted at all.  It really almost brings tears to my eyes that God gave me him and the opportunity to be a mama!  It was worth the wait. :)”  With her permission, I’ll give just a little back story.  Most parents feel blessed by their children, but I think it is even a little more apparent to those who didn’t have a smooth path to parenthood. I’ve known these two for a number of years, and it has always been obvious that they would be amazing, loving, patient parents.  As time passed and it didn’t happen, I assumed something was going on and began praying for them to get pregnant, unbeknownst to them.  I know I was not alone in lifting them up.  One day I decided that I wanted to sit down with Anne at lunch and tell her this– that I just really felt they had been laid on my heart to pray for.  We both were busy and hadn’t gotten to catch up in a while (she was a schoolteacher at the time), so we met with a mutual friend on a beautiful day and ate at Tazikis.  That day, Anne told us about the IVF round they were in the midst of (which I hadn’t known about).  When I told her that I had been praying for them for months (or maybe a year at that point), she became teary eyed.  The three of us cried and celebrated the possibility of new life.  Lo and behold, William was the fruit of those fertility efforts.  A moment doesn’t pass for these parents without realizing that they are blessed with this precious boy. William is about to turn 7 months old next week, and he is a perfect blend of his mama and his daddy.  What a lucky boy.

PS: I’m avoiding posting whole-family shots in case they get used for Christmas cards. 🙂
