Sidney: 1 year | Franklin TN baby photographer

I woke up this morning at 5:30 to the sound of rain. That is not a good thing when you have a shoot at 8:30. It must not have lasted too long because it was gone when I actually go up a little closer to 6:30. We still had some seriously overcast skies, though. A lot of people would see that sky and get worried about having a photo shoot. I am totally comfortable shooting in those conditions, though! We ended up having much cooler weather than originally anticipated, and the rain held off until we were literally walking to our cars. In short, it was fabulous!

This little lady is a familiar face around ECP. In fact, I was just documenting the fun at her birthday party two weekends ago. Her mama opted to have an additional session so we could have time for individuals and family images. I hope you guys love her preview below!

Makenna: 1 year | Franklin TN baby photographer

This sweet girl was the big winner from my 2013 Client Favorites contest. Her mama ran quite the campaign to get votes and succeeded! Their prize was a free mini session, which we had today. That contest was so much fun and got a great response from all of you! I definitely plan on doing it again this year.

Miss Makenna was not giving away smiles today. Nope. She was bound and determined to make us work for it– and so we did!  I know parents sometimes get nervous when this happens. Trust me, I’ve been in your shoes!  I feel pretty comfortable about knowing when I’ve captured the shots I need, so I always continue to shoot until we have reached that point.  At some sessions, that may happen pretty quickly if things are just clicking.  At others, we might need to take a little more time.  That is ok!  Children are unique, so we have to respond to them accordingly.

Getting to spend a lot of our session playing instruments is what made Makenna happy. That makes a lot of sense, though, because her daddy is a musician. You may remember how we put her in his guitar case for her 6 month shoot.  Wait– what am I talking about?  Of course you know that photo since it was the one that won the contest!

Sidney | Nashville TN birthday photographer

I’ve been photographing Miss Sidney for a year now. Isn’t that hard to believe? I joined her family and friends for a birthday celebration at their home in Nashville on Saturday. Since I’m posting a few days later than usual, I’ve included a ridiculous number of images in this preview. As you’ll see, no detail was missed in terms of décor and party preparation. Sidney’s mama has always been good at those sorts of things.

I always warn the parents before the cake smash that it can go one of two ways– either their child will love it and be all-in, or their child will get upset (maybe even to the point of sobbing).  There really isn’t usually any in-between.  Sidney went the former route– the girl LOVED her cake, once she realized what it was.  She grabbed fists-full and put them in her mouth.  It was pretty entertaining!

Hunter: 1 year old | Franklin TN photographer

You may remember these beautiful kiddos from our fall session.  For our shoot on Saturday in Franklin, it was baby brother’s turn to be in the spotlight, considering he just turned 1!  He has grown so much since the last time I saw him.  He has a mouth full of teeth and is slowly getting the hang of walking.  In fact, I bet he has made big progress just in the few days since we were together.  It seems like once they realize that they can walk, they start to run!  The best way to get a smile out of Hunter?  Sing “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” (or more importantly, have his sisters and mama sing it).  It was a team effort. 🙂

Harper: 6 days old | Nashville TN newborn photographer

Yesterday, I got to meet newborn Harper, her parents, and her two furry “siblings” (dogs).  Harper put up a bit of a protest early on during our shoot, but we prevailed and ended up with some of my favorite newborn photos that I have ever taken!

The beaded headband you see was a recent purchase for me from Etsy.  When I saw it, I had a feeling it would be really beautiful, but I was blown away by how elegant and perfect it was.  Harper’s mama agreed with me. 🙂  The basket (see near the bottom of the post) and both the wrap and blanket in the first image below were also new for this session.  I find that I am really drawn to the natural tone-on-tone and texture in this first image.  Shopping-wise, I have a tendency to pick things up along the way, even if I have no newborns scheduled  in the immediate future.  As I near the date of a newborn session, I also tend to start perusing Etsy as well.  I always encourage my expectant mamas to do the same in case there is something specific that they want to incorporate.  Though it wasn’t intended for our shoot (it was actually from Harper’s baby shower), the sign on the front door was so cute that I couldn’t resist documenting it.

I am so excited to share this preview with all of you.  If you have a favorite image, I’d love to hear about it either here or on Facebook!Harper 08 webHarper 03 web
