Anna | Franklin TN newborn photographer

Since joining the studio in January, I’ve been doing all of my newborn sessions there.  Frankly, it’s easier on me since I can set-up before clients arrive and know my lighting source and space.  Anna’s mama really wanted her session to be at their Franklin home, though, so I went there to meet the new family of 3 last week.  Considering I did in-home newborn sessions for several years, it was kind of like putting on a pair of old, comfortable shoes.  It was fun to get to figure out how to incorporate or work with the home’s different elements.  We were doing most of the shooting in the kitchen, as kitchens frequently have the largest windows or those with the best natural light.   I was working to determine one of the prop set-ups when I realized how amazing it would be to take advantage of the circular woven rug that we were standing on.  The resulting image is one of my favorites.  I’m kind of obsessed with it!  It was an added bonus that sweet baby Anna decided to smile then, too!  (See the first image below.) She was a dream of a baby to work with– slept well and posed easily (with the exception of her death-grip fingers that I had to work on a lot to get them to lay flat!  Ha!)  This family was a pleasure to meet and photograph, for sure.

Kyla turns 1 | Nashville birthday party photographer

I’ll admit it: planning parties is not my gift.

I have friends and clients who are able to take a theme and RUN with it.  They figure out ways to incorporate the theme into every aspect of the party– from decorations to food to activities and so on.  They think of things that would have never even crossed my mind.  Kyla’s mama falls into this category.  The party theme was bubbles, which you’ll see below.  Guys, the sidewalk and the table were lined with bubblewrap.  Oh my goodness.  So fun.  Many of you saw a sneak peak last night on Facebook of the cake, which was made by Kyla’s great aunt.  The detail on it (especially those handmade “bubbles”) blew me away.  There were two bubble machines operating– one in front of the house and one in the back.  There was a bubble station in the back, complete with “filling station” in a drink dispenser so the kids could refill toys for blowing more bubbles.  Guests were given bubbles and Blow Pops when they left.  Oh and yes– that is a giant “1” covered in photos on the front porch. 🙂

Kyla had a great time and was surrounded by lots of friends and family as she celebrated.  She got to play, swing, eat, and smash a cake, which makes for a pretty good birthday in my book.  Kyla was really generous and shared her cake with BOTH parents and her grandfather!  That made for some pretty funny photos. There was a beautiful spot in her backyard, so I took the family back there for some more posed images before the party began. I was thrilled to get to join them and photograph her birthday party!

Inglis family | Nashville family photographer

This part Saturday was the second time this crew has been in front of my camera.  It’s amazing how much their girls changed since last fall!  Some of the leaf-throwing images from that photo session were among my favorites.  The big sister was just overjoyed when I suggested that she do that.  Since then, she has gotten glasses, which you guys know that I am partial to since my 5 year old has been wearing glasses for the past two years.  Love them!  This time around, I met the family for a full session at Percy Warner Park in Nashville on what started as a relatively comfortable August morning.  By the time we were wrapping up, the humidity and heat were starting to hit, and we were thankful to be done!  The scenery there is so beautiful and just hard to beat.  A event rental company was setting up for a wedding while we were there, so I guess others agree. 🙂

Reese | Nashville newborn photographer

Reese and family came to see me at my Nashville studio on Sunday for his newborn session.  He surprised everyone by coming three weeks early, which meant a nice, sleepy baby for me!  Babies who are born early almost always are better sleepers for shoots than those who “cooked” a little longer. We got a really fun variety of poses, including a couple different props.

I used some different prop and fabric/wrap combinations at Reese’s shoot that I haven’t tried before, and I love how they turned out!  My favorite posing backdrop became the stuffer for the metal basket, for example.  The dark gray plus the light blue wrap is a really dreamy combination.  I always try to make sure families end up with some images that are very neutral (and then easy to hang anywhere in the house) and some that have a little more color/interest.
