The Huttons are expecting! | Franklin family photographer

I love doing pregnancy announcement sessions!  Yes, it’s fun to get to be in on a secret before everyone else.  I especially love when it is first-time parents who have that wonderful combination of excitement and nervousness because they have no idea what the next several months are going to entail.  Did any of us really know what to expect when we were carrying our firsts?  Nope.  No amount of reading could have told me all of the little things.  That is part of the beauty of the experience; it is so much more than someone could put down on paper.

Back to this adorable duo– they are related to some regular clients of mine, and I was thrilled to get to meet them!  It’s fun to make connections like that.

At this type of session, my goal is to split our time in half– we spend half of it doing announcement-type photos and the other half doing updated portraits of the couple.  Most couples don’t regularly get quality photos taken together, so I really like to emphasize this.We met at one of my favorite spots in Franklin.  It has this awesome gray porch with the chipping paint and tons of character.  It adds tons of interest and character to our photos.  My last pregnancy announcement session was actually at this same location!Isn’t mama GLOWING??  She looked so gorgeous for our shoot.Look at those tiny little shoes!  This little one has long been prayed for at their house.  Mama made some signs to use for her session, so we found some fun ways to incorporate them.  I love the texture of the old tree with this one.I love this photo so much that I’m showing you both the color and the b&w versions!  Do you have a favorite? This daddy is 6’3″, if I remember correctly, so look at how tiny that little outfit is compared to him!

Leave them some love in the comments!  Which photo was your favorite?

Miles is 1 | Nashville birthday party photographer

Last weekend, I got to spend a few hours with Miles and his family and friends to celebrate his birthday at his home.  His mama went ALL OUT with a Dr. Seuss theme.  It was just on a completely different level.  There are some things I am good at, but party planning is not really one of them.  I am always amazed by parents who are able to nail a theme down to every detail.

Decorations and themed cake? Of course.

Huge cardboard cutout of the Cat in the Hat?  Yep.

Green (deviled) eggs and ham?  Amazing. Perfect party food.

A copy of “Oh Where You’ll Go” for guests to sign a birthday message?  So sweet.

Four bowls with the appropriate fish (one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish). I couldn’t help but giggle.

Miles is lucky to have so many people who love him and celebrate his milestones.  It was a great day!

Ogden family | Downtown Nashville family photographer

I was talking to a client/friend the other day, and she asked me about this session.  She had seen the preview photos on Facebook back in the fall and wanted to see more from the session to see if it might be a location she’d like to try.  It was my first time shooting in downtown Nashville, and I loved it!  We had a really beautiful evening, and I amazingly found some trees that were still holding on to their fall color.  Throw in a fun family I’ve known for a long time, and it was a winner all around.  Before you ask– no, the pedestrian bridge was not empty.  It wasn’t packed by any means, but it did require a little Photoshop magic to get rid of the runners and bikers. 🙂

When this mama emailed me that she was expecting, here’s how I responded: “!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you serious?!?!??!?!  I’m so excited for you guys!  Ah!  Congratulations!”

We’ve known this sweet couple for several years through church, so I have to admit that it was fun to be in on a big secret! When they first contacted me about doing a session, I was not expecting this surprise at all.  I love getting to celebrate exciting moments with friends and clients.  Since they knew everyone would be shocked by their big news, they wanted to do a pregnancy announcement session.  We met on a chilly (but sunny!) day back in November.  I loved being part of that moment for them– the pure joy and hopeful expectation on their faces was so evident.  We did some announcement-specific poses, but then we also just did some nice couples poses.  They formally shared their news in their Christmas cards and on Facebook back in December, so I asked I could post the session here.
