The downtown Franklin Antique District was the backdrop for this family shoot.  The brick walls and hint of urban setting are a fun change from all of the GREEN of just normally shooting outside in a park.  I don’t do sessions here quite as much as I’d like to.  Note to self: bring more families here!

Who doesn’t love a bridge?  Pinkerton Park in Franklin is a family photo session favorite because of this huge pedestrian bridge and the way the light falls prior to sunset.  It’s a good spot even to dance, as you’ll see below.  Ha!  The hardest part meeting here is that it is a true pedestrian bridge and often is busy with people walking in and out of the park.  With a little bit of patience, though, you can really get some beautiful images here.

I am woefully behind on blogging, but I need to share this session and another one or two to show off some of my session locations in Franklin. This is my newest shooting spot, and it’s a great option for either a half or full session (more details on sessions can be found in the tabs above). I’ve now used this area for a session in the morning and a session at sunset (like this one), so that is really helpful for me knowing what the light is going to do there at different times of day. There are definitely some locations that look better at one or the other, but I think this spot is flexible due to the mature trees and shade. There are trees, rocks, tall grass, dirt paths, a boardwalk, old split-log fencing… it really has it all, except for maybe a building or other structure. I’ve been here 3 times in the past 2 weeks already, and I have at least 2 other families with upcoming sessions who have requested it! I have a feeling it will be going into a regular rotation.

Back to Abby– this session was lots of fun. She is at such a great age and was excited about our shoot! Several of my favorite images naturally happened from her posing herself either in a spot I selected (the log) or a spot she chose (like lying down in the middle of the grass). I’ve been photographing her since she was a newborn, and I have loved getting to see her grow! Of course, I’m partial to curly redheads (my favorite!!) Here are just a few of the images that I can’t resist sharing.

How to book a fall session: FAQ

Ok, I’m going to be making up some questions and answers that I anticipate hearing a lot as my fall calendar opens. Here’s hoping this helps! 🙂

Q: I don’t see a date that works for me, but I want you to shoot our session.

A: I’d love to work with you, too! Send me an email explaining the situation, and I’ll see if I can work something out date-wise.  I might be able to add another weeknight, for example.  It is always worth a try.

Q: I don’t know if I should choose a half session or a full session.

A:  With both session types, I will aim to get images of the whole family, each parent with child(ren), and each child individually, at a minimum.  There are a couple big differences, though, so let me break it down:

Half session: 30 minutes max, limited locations, no clothing changes, 15 images.

Full session: 60 minutes, flexible on locations, up to 2 clothing changes, 35 images.

You know your child(ren).  If they have a little trouble being compliant, it might be wise to go with the full session to have extra time and flexibility.  I obviously will do my very best to get the best images I can!  I often shoot half sessions back to back this time of year, so I am pretty firm on the length with those.

Q: How do I book a Santa mini session?

A: They are NOT on this calendar sign-up. I will send out a separate booking email on September 1 at 9am for that.  This calendar is ONLY for half and full fall sessions.

Q: I want to do a studio session this fall. Can I do that?

A: Yes, BUT you have to confirm studio availability with me FIRST before booking a slot. Picking one of my available shooting slots doesn’t mean the studio will be available because I share that space with a couple other photographers.  Email me telling me which date you’d like a studio session.  I primarily shoot in the studio during the morning because that is when the light is best.

Q: What kind of holiday minis are you doing?

A: Santa sessions!  They will be November 11 & 12 this year.  Kids only.  I’ll be offering sets of 3 of 5 images for those.

Q: But wait, I want whole family photos!

A: Awesome! I’d love to see you for one of my half or full sessions.  I look at these fall sessions as a chance for families to update their wall art and what’s in the frames around their homes– not just as sessions for Christmas cards.

– – – – –

Q: …but I also want to bring my kids to see Santa (because I know they will be so cute!)

A: I have great news– I’m going to offer my special deal again this year to clients who book both a standard session (half, full, or newborn) AND a Santa mini from August-November.  You pay for the 3 image collection, and I’ll automatically bump you to the 5 image collection as my treat!

Q: Do you sell Christmas cards?

A: I’m so glad you asked! I offered cards two years ago, but took last year off.  I am planning on doing Christmas cards this year.  Woohoo!  I will share a link with my available designs to clients who book fall 2016 sessions. The clients I worked with two years said over and over again how thankful they were that someone else was worrying about making it perfect (me!) and that they loved how custom the experience was.

I just posted this on my Facebook page and realized I should blog it, too!  Target and Old Navy are killing it with awesome pieces for photos right now. This mustard color is everywhere! It looks great with jewel tones, navy, etc. For boys, it is such a nice change from regular blue jeans.  You could do do a denim top with any of these, and it would look fabulous.  I had a few moms who accessorized with this color during shoots last fall, and it looked awesome.  Links for all of these pieces below.
